Qualifications

PDF Print E-mail

Recently I was told I need to display my qualifications as an RKC Team Leader. I had them up somewhere on one of my older sites but didn't move them over. I didn't feel it necessary to put them out there, but I will now.

I have been in Shaolin Do for 18 yrs, my anniversary with Master John Price is coming up in October. I studied hard and within 2 1/2 yrs earned my 1st degree black belt. During that time Master John allowed me to teach some of the lower rank classes and I really learned a lot doing so. I kept up my studies, practically living in the dojo and in 2005 was promoted to 5th degree, Associate Master level.

Over time I grew bored doing pushups and pullups all the time and forms work for cardio, so I turned to the Internet and discovered DragonDoor and kettlebells through an article. I was hooked, and within a few months I went to St. Paul to get certified. This was in Sept of 2002 and I was part of he 3rd certification class. It was a great experience all around. I learned a lot and met many strong and intense, but friendly people.

When I returned from the cert I started teaching some of my martial arts students and have continued teaching them to this day. I have taught hundreds of people how to safely and effectively use kettlebells in the last 5 years.

I have been back to St. Paul 4 times as an Assistant Instructor working with several different Sr. RKCs each time, the last was Oct 2006 working directly with Pavel. Every time I assisted learned more about kettlebells, strength & conditioning, fitness, joint mobility and Qigong. Always something new, a new way to teach a lift, new concepts.

I also attended the 1st Level II certification in June of 2004 (I think), where the emphasis was on how to train LEO, Firefighters and the military, again another great learning experience.

In January of 2007  DragonDoor did a bit of restructuring of the RKC levels by adding the RKC Level II and RKC Team Leader designations. I was honored to be among those given the title of Team Leader which indicates Pavels trust in my skills as an instructor and leader in teaching kettlebells to the masses and bringing along future RKCs.

In February of 2007 I was also certified by Valery Fedorenko as an American Kettlebell Club (AKC - not to be confused with the American Kennel Club Laughing ) "Coach"

I also hope to be certified as a Level 1 Crossfit trainer soon.

Between my years of teaching Shaolin Do, the 5 years of teaching kettlebells and clubbells and now incorporating other tools I feel I bring a unique combination of skills to help people get in shape.  I'm constantly on the lookout for new ways to get people motivated, to help them learn, to help with getting people healthy and active, but my primary tool is the kettlebell and the magic (hard work) of kettlebell lifting.
